HOPE AND DESPAIR for POPULATIONS
Sense-making is defined as the ability
to create ideas that sounds plausible and can be sensible (Merriam-Webster).
With the video “HOW FILM CAPTURES
THE SPACE BETWEEN HOPE AND DESPAIR” the speaker talked about where she was from
and that she was a film writer and told what happened to her during the accident
that happened in the country Lebanon in the port of Beirut (Akl).
Government politicians and civilians were mingling and sharing space. This video
shows and recreates issues that happened in the news and are sometimes written
before the event happens in the case of the “HOW FILM CAPTURES THE
SPACE BETWEEN HOPE AND DESPAIR”. Films can report the possible issues with
government involvement with economics and accidents.
The pros with government involvement
with economics and accidents is they can change the laws and regulations to
keep the population safe. Governments are good at reacting to events but
companies must wait for regulations to change to keep profit.

The con is that if the government is
the one that allows the accident to happen in a location near a populated area.
Politicians are still humans and humans can be bought or bribed with favors or
money incentives. Governments should be at fault and fix things, if at fault,
if not the officials should be up for criminal charges by the world governments.
Governments should be mindful of how corruption happens. Absolute power with no
oversite of actions corrupt politicians absolutely (Lord Acton,1887).
Film can change the form
of involvement of how governments react to issues. Most politicians start in
office from having ownership of a law firm or a corporation. Then when they get
out, they can go back to business as nothing has happened.

Lord Acton writes to
bishop Creighton that the same moral standards should be applied to all men,
political and religious leaders included, especially since "power tends to
corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely" (1887).
